Position Summary Information Primary Purpose As a member of the Financial Aid management team, the Assistant Director for Financial Aid, Literacy and Outreach is responsible in developing and managing a Financial Literacy program across the University, providing coordination of financial aid outreach activities to the campuses, high schools and local communities. Provides counseling and advising to students and parents regarding financial aid eligibility, procedures and college financing options for the purpose of recruitment and retention. Essential Functions 1. Manages the Financial Literacy Program for the University. ---Collaborates with University stakeholders including the New Student Orientation Team, in developing, maintaining and delivering Financial Literacy content. ---Creates and incorporates Financial Literacy four year college planning materials into communications and outreach for students and families. ---Designs and implements managing financial expenses, and funding your education literacy workshops. ---Engages in campus financial literacy initiatives. ---Creates realistic goal setting for student loan borrowing. ---Oversees in-person student loan repayment/exit counseling workshops. ---Ensures program is relevant and sustainable. ---Reviews effectiveness and adjusts program components when needed. ---Compiles reports on the effectiveness of the financial literacy program. 2. Coordinates, designs and implements College Cost awareness and financial aid curriculum for local area high schools. ---Advise and inform students and parents of college costs. ---Guide and facilitate discussions regarding myths of financial aid and college costs. ---Provide guidance to students and parents receiving and reviewing award letters. ---Boost educators and parent participation and awareness with cost of college and accessibility of financial aid. 3. Oversees and/or deliver outreach activities which include financial aid presentations, workshops to local area high schools, community colleges and various community agencies and organizations to inform students and parents of various financial aid program requirements and deadlines. ---Prepares financial aid presentations for prospective students, parents and counselors (i.e. Preview Day, Tiger Day, Bilingual Financial Aid workshop, African-American workshop, yield events, classroom presentations, etc.). 4. Responds to inquires related to financial aid, literacy and outreach in a courteous and professional manner. 5. Counsel students individually regarding financial aid eligibility, procedures, costs, indebtedness, and college financing options and individualizes information to the particular needs and situations of the students. ---Counsels students and parents who have complicated situations on financial aid/person matters requiring sensitivity to emotional situations. 6. Oversees financial aid for specific academic programs. ---Determines appropriate aid packages for special programs as assigned. ---Coordinates delivery of student award notifications. ---Collects, interprets and disseminates updated program information. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience/Certifications: ---Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. ---A minimum of three (3) years' experience in financial aid student counseling, financial aid awarding or managing financial literacy programs. ---Excellent oral, written public speaking and customer service communication skills. ---Strong proficiency in standard office software programs, including Word, Excel and Power Point. Preferred Qualifications Skills/Knowledge and Expertise: ---Ability to communicate complex financial aid information to large groups of students and parents. ---Principles, procedures, strategies and techniques used in effective college financial aid outreach programs and services. ---Ability to work independently without direct supervision. ---Comprehensive working knowledge and ability to interpret and apply federal, state and University financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures. ---Ability to conduct research; read, analyze and provide analysis. ---Knowledge and ability to independently reach difficult decisions utilizing professional judgment ---Strong organizational and time management skills essential, including the ability to handle complex multiple tasks, to prioritize and ability to manage competing deadlines. ---Ability to identify and defuse conflict in difficult situations. ---Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion. ---Ellucian Banner knowledge and experience, or similar database system. Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work is generally performed in a standard office environment and standard business hours with use of computer and phone. Additional hours maybe required to meet business needs throughout the year and particularly during the peak season. Travel maybe expected to participate in outreach events, attend professional meetings and conferences. Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business.
