Associate Professor/Professor of Machine Tool Technology San Joaquin Delta Community College District Job Number: 1900002K Under the general supervision of the Division Dean of Applied Science, Business and Technology, the Associate Professor/Professor of Machine Tool Technology teaches organized classes primarily in the Machine Tool Technology discipline; the primary responsibility is to teach 15 unites (per term) in the assigned discipline. Responsibilities and Duties: Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Teach Community College-level courses in the machine tool industries, such as: A. Manual and CNC machine tools - including Lathes, Vertical Milling Machines, Grinders, Saws and specialized shop equipment. B. Heat treating, metal forming and foundry practices. C. G & M Code programing for CNC Mills and Lathes 1. Hand G & m Code Programing and trouble shooting. 2. Use Mastercam CAM software to create G & M programs D. Setup, fixturing and operational procedures for manual and CNC machine tools; E. Metrology (measurement technique) F. Shop theory, math and blueprint skills (including GD & T standards). G. Work habits, attitudes and basic requirements for the apprenticeship program; H. Other related technical and industrial courses as required. 2. Maintain expertise in current teaching methods, discipline knowledge, and discipline specific technologies. 3. Assist students in achieving stated course objectives. Evaluate the progress of each student and notify students in need of counseling service and/or tutorial assistance. Track student learning outcomes and maintain records of student learning outcomes. 4. Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review, modification, and the assessment of student learning outcomes in order to make the program successful. 5. Support the Division Dean in cooperating with campus and community groups to provide programs, courses and information relevant to the needs of the students and various programs. 6. Coordinate with other faculty in the selection of textbooks, audiovisual and other instructional materials. 7. Complete various reporting procedures as required for student evaluation, course reporting, equipment and supply purchases and tracking, and budget development. 8. Assist the Division Dean in the preparation of required reports by providing requested information. 9. Attend various departmental, divisional, and campus-wide activities and events as required. 10. Assist in the marketing and promotion of the program by participating in special college sponsored events and by visiting local businesses and schools. 11. Participate in departmental, divisional and campus-wide committees as part of the shared-governance process. 12. Participate in divisional committees as assigned by the Division Dean. 13. Plan and complete approved professional development flex activities each semester. 14. Perform other necessary duties as assigned by the Division Dean and as outlined in Board Policy. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any Associate Degree and six years of directly related experience in the field, OR any Bachelor's Degree and two years directly related experience in the field, OR the equivalent. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in teaching postsecondary courses in Machine Tool Technology or a related discipline, especially at the community college level. Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different levels of students' ability and learning styles. Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to students from different cultures and ethnic groups. Demonstrated ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques and equipment. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with colleagues on various issues to bring about results which are in the best interest of the students, program, division, and college. Demonstrated leadership ability and desire to make educational programs successful and to work with community groups in order to coordinate the educational programs with the needs of the community. Demonstrated willingness to participate in professional, community and business and industry-related meetings and workshops and visit local employer job sites to remain current with new developments in the field.
