are seeking a Overhead Contact System (OCS) Engineer who will be
responsible for the design of systems for high-speed rail, commuter
rail, light rail, streetcar, and electrified bus systems throughout
the United States. This position can be based anywhere in
California but will require the ability to travel when needed. The
OCS Engineer will be part of the Systems Engineering team
responsible for a variety of engineering tasks including, but not
limited to planning, conceptual engineering, design, final
engineering, constructability, and cost estimating. Essential
Duties and Responsibilities Design OCS layout, wire tensions, for
light rail, commuter rail and streetcar with pantograph as well as
electrified buses with trolley poles. Generate design reports for
all phases of system design for new OCS and modifications to
existing systems. Design layout plans, wire profiles, and support
structures, including cantilevers, portals, head spans, OCS
hardware and grounding and bonding. Perform pole and foundation
loading calculations, tension calculations, analysis of wire sag
and rise conditions. Perform technical review of other team
members’ designs. Ensure compliance with all federal, state & local
regulations Participate in the implementation phase of projects,
such as support for Planning, Scope Generation, Installation,
Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings review and final
reports. Collaborate with other technical teams such as Traction
Power, Communications, Signals & Train Control, Electrical,
Mechanical, Structural, Architectural, Trackwork, and Civil;
including coordination and design of interfaces. Lead technical
interactions with clients, operations, and other major
stakeholders. Support cost estimates, project schedules and budget
forecasts. Participate in project pursuit efforts. Serve as a
leader and provide guidance to junior team members Support the
management of System Interfaces and creation of Interface Control
Documents (ICDs). Support System Engineering and Assurance efforts
such as Requirements Management, Verification & Validation, RAM,
Safety Assurance, Quality Management, EMI/EMC, and others.
Requirements: Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor Degree in relevant field and 4 years
of experience in OCS design for public transit rail projects
Preferred Qualifications: 6 years of relevant experience and EIT
with a goal of obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience with OCS design, including the design of 600 to 1500
volt dc rail as well as 12 to 25 kilovolt AC Experience in OCS
Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Interface Management and
Operations & Maintenance. Working knowledge of codes and standards
applicable to rail projects. Accustomed to operating within a
multi-disciplinary project structure with responsibility for OCS
design. Experience and knowledge of tension and pole/foundation
load calculations. AutoCAD or MicroStation experience.
Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited direct
supervision. Able to multitask due to concurrent projects.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to lead
discussions with senior project staff, partners, clients and
