Job Description:
We are a We manage the animal population at the Stockton Animal
Shelter and the community it serves. company. Our mission is To
provide shelter, food and treatment to homeless and lost pets,
finding their owners, or a forever home.. We are seeking a new
Veterinarian to join our team. Your role will be to Works with
Animal Protection League (APL- employer) and the Stockton Animal
Shelter Director (Director - client) to manage the animal
population at the Stockton Animal Shelter and the community it
serves. The Shelter is currently an underutilized transfer shelter
which is dedicated to growing its services for the preservation and
protection of animals in San Joaquin County. The right person for
the position is interested in a team approach style of shelter
management who can manage resources while attending to an
individual animal and the larger shelter population. Provides spay,
neuter, and other surgeries for animals in the Clinic/Shelter.. As
a member of the Medical, you will work with clinical/surgery staff,
APL Staff, Shelter Staff and volunteers and report to our Executive
Director. What You Will Do: Provides daily care and/or surgical
services to animals at the Stockton Animal Shelter Examines
animals' pre-op to determine their ability to withstand surgery
Able to performs surgical sterilization (able to performs an
average of 25-35 surgeries a day). Performs other surgical
procedures as needed. Provides other clinical care to animals as
needed, including inoculations --- Decides along with Shelter
Manager if animals are in need of further diagnostics and provides
recommendations for follow up care. Provides daily clinical
supervision of veterinary technicians, students, and assistants
before, during, and after clinic work and/or surgery. Alerts APL
human resources to any performance concerns. Supervises daily
cleaning and animal handling for adherence to protocol in the
clinic for prevention of infectious /zoonotic disease. Supervises
daily handling and recording of controlled substances by veterinary
technicians. Audits drug log for usage and accuracy. Continues
research and maintenance of safe and efficacious medical protocol
regarding anesthesia and surgery. Supervises post-op rechecks and
orders medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical
recovery. Performs medical rounds, prescribing treatments for, and
making recommendations for disposition of shelter animals. Provides
professional client, staff, and volunteer care --- Represents the
APL in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Provides
quality service to client (City of Stockton), volunteers, and staff
recognizing their individual contributions to the success of our
Animal Protection League Represents the APL in a professional and
courteous manner at all times. Provides quality service to client
(City of Stockton), volunteers, and staff recognizing their
individual contributions to the success of our Animal Protection
League Actively supports associate staff and volunteers and
promotes the development of skills related to the advancement of
our goals and mission. Communicates with client about medical
complications and recommendations; available for follow-up care as
needed. Participates on committees and/or special projects as
assigned. This may include but is not limited to such projects as
training of other veterinarians on high volume spay/neuter
techniques. Actively promotes the APL's programs and events to
clients and volunteers. Promotes communication and cooperation
between facility departments. Maintains licensure and follows
safety guidelines Helps oversee OSHA compliance in relation to the
clinic. Promotes and follows safety guidelines to ensure a safe
work environment. Takes immediate action to address any safety
concern or noncompliance with OSHA rules that could put an
employee, volunteer, client, animal, and/or the Animal Protection
League at risk. Secures DEA license for clinic. Maintains a current
"CALIFORNIA" veterinary license in good standing. Completes
required continuing education courses What You Will Bring: Our
ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of relevant experience and the
following credentials/skills: Doctorate Degree Experience in the
field of veterinary medicine and knowledge of disease recognition
in a shelter setting required High volume spay/neuter experience
and knowledge of shelter medicine and epidemiology desirable
Knowledge of feral cat issues Effective decision making and
diagnostic skills and interest in pursuing treatment options with
limited funding Demonstrated effective decision making and
diagnostic skills based on recent performance references Strong
interest in pursuing treatment options with limited funding Able to
work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks at one time
Outstanding customer service, oral and written communication skills

$110000.00 - $180000.00 per year (plus bonus/commission). We offer
