The Senior Program Manager - Microbiology directs all phases of development programs from initial business case to transfer into sustaining operations. As the leader of a cross-functional team, this position holds primary responsibility of overseeing the product development process for key, strategic programs within the Microbiology medical device project portfolio. They will also support portfolio analysis and prioritization of projects in the pipeline, both proposed and ongoing, and the dynamic resource allocation process across functions.

This position belongs to Microbiology Operating Company nested within Beckman Coulter and is located in West Sacramento. (Manager is open to remote employees willing to commit to onsite work 2-5 days/month post pandemic.) You will be an integral part of the Program Management Office and report to the Sr Manager of Portfolio & Program Management for Microbiology.

The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates leadership that is earned and is not attained via position power. This leader will also demonstrate the courage required to balance successfully the scope / quality / timeliness triad of superior Program Management and drive teams to succeed, or have the courage to change directions appropriately, as the facts present themselves. This candidate must possess proven ability to mentor and lead as well as skills in charting the course of the PMO for future state.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Manage budget, schedule, resources, and performance of the program and achievement of QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) metrics for their programs. Make or facilitate project trade-off decisions while identifying and driving countermeasures in instances when project is overdue or exceeding budget.
  • Maintain continuous alignment of program scope with strategic business objectives and possesses sophisticated skills in finance, leadership, communication, influence, cross-cultural awareness, influence, and conflict resolution.
  • Work cross-functionally and collaborate frequently with Research and Development, Operations, Supply Chain/Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, and Marketing; additionally, working cross-site/time zones will be equally important in achieving maximum impact.
  • Routinely communicate project goals, status, requirements, gaps, and countermeasures to the Business Unit Product Planning Group.
  • Empower by example, mentor, and develop team members to assure common understanding of the development process and project goals.
  • Strategize with Business Unit management to define, support, and implement functional strategies that drive innovation and growth as well as process improvements that support product development critical initiatives and Key Performance Indicators.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Science, Engineering, Business, Management or a related field with 14+years of proven experience or a master's degree with 12+ years of experience. MBA is a significant plus.
  • Work experience should include a minimum 5, preference 7+ years in program/project management with proven track record leading system projects.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP), or equivalent experience.
  • Strong motivational leadership skills and the ability to influence others without direct authority.
  • Ability to travel (domestic and internationally)-likely 5-10% of time.
  • Manager is open to remote employees willing to commit to onsite work 2-5 days/month post pandemic

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • ISO and FDA regulated environment experience
  • Danaher Business System/Lean/Kaizen
  • Managing projects with outside development partners
  • People management experience
