The Senior Program Manager - Microbiology directs all phases of
development programs from initial business case to transfer into
sustaining operations. As the leader of a cross-functional team,
this position holds primary responsibility of overseeing the
product development process for key, strategic programs within the
Microbiology medical device project portfolio. They will also
support portfolio analysis and prioritization of projects in the
pipeline, both proposed and ongoing, and the dynamic resource
allocation process across functions.
This position belongs to Microbiology Operating Company nested
within Beckman Coulter and is located in West Sacramento. (Manager
is open to remote employees willing to commit to onsite work 2-5
days/month post pandemic.) At Microbiology, our vision is to ensure

right time as one of the leading ID/AST companies. You will be an
integral part of the Program Management Office and report to the Sr
Manager of Portfolio & Program Management for Microbiology.

The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates leadership

the courage required to balance successfully the scope / quality /
timeliness triad of superior Program Management and drive teams to
succeed, or have the courage to change directions appropriately, as
the facts present themselves. This candidate must possess proven
ability to mentor and lead as well as skills in charting the course
of the PMO for future state.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Manage budget, schedule, resources, and performance of the
program and achievement of QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) metrics
for their programs. Make or facilitate project trade-off decisions
while identifying and driving countermeasures in instances when
project is overdue or exceeding budget.
- Maintain continuous alignment of program scope with strategic
business objectives and possesses sophisticated skills in finance,
leadership, communication, influence, cross-cultural awareness,
influence, and conflict resolution.
- Work cross-functionally and collaborate frequently with
Research and Development, Operations, Supply Chain/Procurement,
Quality, Regulatory, and Marketing; additionally, working
cross-site/time zones will be equally important in achieving
- Routinely communicate project goals, status, requirements,
gaps, and countermeasures to the Business Unit Product Planning
- Empower by example, mentor, and develop team members to assure
common understanding of the development process and project
- Strategize with Business Unit management to define, support,
and implement functional strategies that drive innovation and
growth as well as process improvements that support product
development critical initiatives and Key Performance
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor's degree in Life Science, Engineering, Business,
Management or a related field with 14+years of proven experience or
a master's degree with 12+ years of experience. MBA is a
- Work experience should include a minimum 5, preference 7+ years
in program/project management with proven track record leading
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Portfolio
Management Professional (PfMP), or equivalent experience.
- Strong motivational leadership skills and the ability to
influence others without direct authority.
- Ability to travel (domestic and internationally)-likely 5-10%
- Manager is open to remote employees willing to commit to onsite
work 2-5 days/month post pandemic
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience
- ISO and FDA regulated environment experience
- Danaher Business System/Lean/Kaizen
- Managing projects with outside development partners
- People management experience
