Position Summary: The Nurse Coordinator has responsibility for the nursing care of patients and the supervision of nursing personnel hospital wide. This is a 8 hour shift position Monday through Friday. The Nurse Coordinator will coordinate with professional, support and service staff in the delivery of patient care including but not limited to: Social Services; Behavioral Evaluation, pharmacy, dietary, admissions and housekeeping. Responsible for the interpretation and implementation of nursing philosophy and policies and procedures. Collaborates with the Manager of Patient Care Services, Medical Director, and President. Works in conjunction with the policies, procedures and standards of care established by the Center, the State, CMS and JCAHO. Maintains a safe, secure and orderly patient care environment. Nurse Coordinator duties include: assessment of patients; verbal medication orders; care planning; direct other unit staff; ensure patient care is implemented as ordered; and patient documentation is completed every shift. Promotes guest relations and customer service. Hires new Employees on designated shift/units. Ensures completion of annual performance appraisals, competencies and annual mandatory in-service of all nursing personnel. The Nurse Coordinator will function generally as a floating supervisor however, he/she may also function as a charge nurse for either the GPU or ITU unit and may perform duties of technical and support staff as they relate to direct patient care. Nurse Coordinator will coordinate care hospital wide with the Unit Nurse Supervisor or Staff RN. Will conduct random chart audits and make use of statistical control processes in decision making. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support the Organization's strategic plan and goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).


Minimum Requirements:

  • One year of supervisory experience
  • One-year minimum of psychiatric inpatient nursing experience OR one-year medical/surgical experience (If experience is in the medical/surgical area will be assigned to GPU until training is completed and competency has been demonstrated through specific competency tools)
  • Graduate of school of nursing
  • Current California RN license
  • Current BLS certification
  • Nurse Coordinator shows evidence of knowledge of nursing theory, principles and procedures. He/she demonstrates skills, good judgment and good decision making in applying these principles in the clinical setting and is directly and indirectly responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care of Adult and Geriatric patients, maintains a professional and clinical code of behavior
