Responsibilities
Job Summary:
 
Our Respiratory Practitioners are critical to the success of St. Joseph's Medical Center and require the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Dignity Health. 
 
Respiratory Practitioners  provides optimum respiratory care for patients with respiratory disorders and performs therapy as ordered by the physician in accordance with current departmental policies. This position treats/cares for patients of all ages. Acts as relief shift supervisor when required. Maintains department productivity levels by monitoring workloads throughout the shift.

Qualifications
 
Minimum:
  • Graduate of a School of Respiratory Therapy with an Associates Degree
  • Currently requires a graduate of a two year Respiratory Therapy Program, and certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Respiratory Practitioners hired prior to 2003 with one-year certificate and must have been grandfathered into the position
  • Current CA License as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • Current BCLS-Card from the American Heart Association
  • PALS and ACLS highly recommended
  • NRP and Stable certification will be required to work in NICU and will be provided after hire
  • Must be certified in CPR (may also obtain up to three months after hire)
  • Maintain current license with Respiratory Care Examining Committee
  • Position will be required to supervise and have the ability to work in all critical areas including the NICU
Preferred:
  • Member of American Association of Respiratory Therapists and California Society of Respiratory Therapists preferred, but not required
  • Experience in intubations (adult, pediatric and infant), arterial puncture, arterial line draws, high frequency ventilation preferred but will train
