Introduction
This examination is being given to fill current Per Diem entry
level vacancies in the Diagnostics Imaging Department and to
establish an referral pool to fill future Per Diem vacancies.

San Joaquin County General Hospital is seeking dynamic, highly
motivated and team oriented Radiologic Technologists to become part
of the hospital's Diagnostic Imaging Department.
San Joaquin General Hospital is a public hospital certified by The
Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. The hospital Certified
Stroke Program has achieved recognition by American Heart & Stroke
Association and is recipient of the Gold Plus Award. SJGH's
provides comprehensive treatment for trauma patients as the
designated Level III Trauma Center for San Joaquin County.
The Diagnostics Imaging Department is comprised of seven
specialties: Radiography, CT Scan, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear
Medicine, Mammography and Interventional Radiology. We also sponsor
a Radiologic Technology training program. Services are provided in
a culturally sensitive, community-oriented, caring manner with the
highest regard for patient confidentiality and customer service.
The Imaging department strives to image gently, care completely,
and teach effectively.
Per Diem positions receive an additional 15% salary supplement in
lieu of benefits.

TYPICAL DUTIES
* Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic x-ray films;
determines the correct exposure factors on the basis of height,
weight, portion of body involved and degree of penetration
required; selects appropriate cones and screens to reduce secondary
radiation and fogging; sets machine control and exposes the
required number and type of film.
* Learns to assist Radiologist in fluoroscopic and other minor
interventional x-ray procedures; assembles equipment; measures and
mixes barium and contrast media; maintains surveillance over
patients, performs radiographs as necessary for the radiographic
procedure.
* Records patient information, patient identification numbers, and
number and type of views taken in-patient log; maintains records as
required.
* Demonstrates procedures to students; monitors students'
performance of procedures, correcting faulty technique and
explaining appropriate methods.
* May receive on-the-job instructions in mammography and related
quality control and quality assurance documentation.
* Develops exposed film using automatic processors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License and Certificates: Registration with the American Registry
of Radiologic Technologists, and certification by the Department of
Health, State of California, as Radiologic Technologist.
Note: Generally, persons who are registered by the American
Registry of Radiologic Technologists may obtain certification as a
Radiologic Technologists in the State of California upon
application and payment of fees to the State Department of
Health.
Special Requirement: Possession of a State of California
Certificate in mammography or a State of California fluoroscopy
permit may be required as condition for advancement to the
Radiologic Technologist II classification.
KNOWLEDGE
Methods and techniques of diagnostic radiography; various
anatomical positions used in radiography; and care and use of
radiographic equipment; and safety practices to prevent
overexposure to radiation.
ABILITY
Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, manual dexterity
sufficient to administer procedures and operate equipment, bend,
stoop and lift patients; understand and carry out complex oral and
written instructions in exact detail; demonstrate the operation of
x-ray equipment in practical work situations; position patients for
a variety of radiography procedures; work effectively with medical
staff, patients, and co-workers; and maintain records.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Mobility-Frequent operation of a keyboard, standing for long
periods of time, walking, pushing/pulling, and operation of heavy
equipment; occasional sitting for long periods of time and stair
climbing; Frequency of Lifting-Constant lifting of 5 lbs. or less;
frequent restraining, lifting/turning heavy objects or people;
occasional lifting of 5 to above 70 lbs.; Visual
Requirements-Constant need for overall vision, hand/eye
coordination and reading/close up work; frequent need for color
perception, depth perception and field of vision;
Dexterity-Constant holding, reaching and grasping; frequent
writing; Hearing/Talking-Constant hearing of normal speech and
talking in person; frequent hearing on the telephone/radio and
talking on the radio; occasional hearing of faint sounds;
Emotional/Psychological Factors-Constant public contact, decision
making, concentration and working alone; frequent exposure to
hazardous materials, trauma, grief and death; occasional
weekend/night work and overtime/travel; Environmental
Conditions-Occasional exposure to hazardous materials.

Selection Procedures

Physical Exam: Some classifications require physical examinations.

new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a
condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made until the
eligible has passed the drug screen. The County pays for the
initial drug screen.
Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees
in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent,
child, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) either by blood or
marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or
within the department when:
* They are related to the Appointing Authority, or
* The employment would result in one of them supervising the work
of the other
Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring
of relatives by departmental rule.
